What a projection gets wrong about a region is mostly a turn and a size

Drawn here at the parameters it defaults to, with every essay that calls it.
What a projection gets wrong about a region is mostly a turn and a size. For seventeen projections of the same twenty-four cities, the squared error left after moving the sheet's origin, split into the part a turn removes, the part a size then removes, and the pattern that is left. The numbers on the right are the error after the shift and after shift, turn and size. Mercator: 662 km to 154 km, 94.2 per cent of it size. The Lambert conic placed for somewhere else — standard parallels 20° and 60° on Greenwich — 206 km to 21 km, 92.2 per cent of it a turn. Gall–Peters, which draws the region at almost the right size, is 91.9 per cent pattern. The regional maps are a few kilometres either way, which is close to the 2.4 km by which the reference itself differs from the azimuthal equidistant map at the region's centre.

It is one of 86 figures drawn by the same construction, and the drawing above is this one with nothing changed.

1 essay calls it. Every call below passes it something, because a placement that passes nothing draws whichever member of the family the generator happens to default to rather than the one its essay argues about.
